A Cool, Dry Place went straight to video for most the most part. It was released in LA and NY on January 29th but from the lack-luster reviews, it will be a video rental. It's not as bad as I thought it would be (sorry, Vince) but with straight-to-video releases, there is usually a reason. The story isn't that original (90s version of Kramer vs. Kramer) but it's watchable on Christmas Eve after a bottle of wine.

MTVInteractive.com: A Cool, Dry Place For Mills and R.E.M.
July 9 [16:00 EDT] -- Fox 2000 Pictures has gleefully announced they've signed R.E.M. bassist Mike Mills to score their new movie "A Cool, Dry Place," currently in production, and that R.E.M. will be writing and recording a new song for the film's soundtrack. Fox says that R.E.M. have traditionally refused all offers for motion-picture scoring work and original-song contributions.
The movie, now being filmed in Toronto, stars Vince Vaughn ("Swingers," "The Lost World: Jurassic Park 2"), Joey Lauren Adams ("Chasing Amy," "Michael") and Monica Potter ("Con Air"). The director is John N. Smith, whose credits include the critically acclaimed drama, "The Boys of St. Vincent,'' and the box-office hit "Dangerous Minds," with Michelle Pfeiffer. "A Cool, Dry Place" is based on the novel "Dance Real Slow" by Michael Grant Jaffe.
Mills said in a statement: "The book is great, the actors talented and the director brilliant. I can't wait to see the movie."
A spokesperson for Fox says a label deal for the soundtrack is currently being negotiated, as is involvement from other recording artists.
