EW: Psycho Man: Vince Vaughn
When he walks into bars, Vince Vaughn gets the same response his character Trent gave to his would-be hipster friends in Swingers: "You are so money!" But in his case, money talks. After starring as a loser lothario in the 1996 film, the Illinois-bred Vaughn played equally selfish - or downright scary - characters in The Lost World, Return to Paradise, and Clay Pigeons. But as mother-lovin man-boy motelier Norman Bates in Gus Van Sant's controversial remake of Psycho, Vaughn reinvented a role already enshrined in film history by Anthony Perkins. "I figured I would just go in with my own interpretation and not try to mimic him," says the 28-year-old Vaughn. Does he fret about adding another lady-killer to his resume? "i never really worried about being liked in movies," he has said. Maybe not in movies, but in real life? You're so money, baby. -- by Joe Neumaier

Vanity Fair -- April 1998
Hollywood 1998

Vince Vaughn is featured on April's cover of Vanity Fair along with other up-and-coming Hollywood actors: Joaquin Phoenix, Natalie Portman, Djimon Hounsou, Cate Blanchett, Tobey Maguire, Claire Forlani, Gretchen Mol, Christina Ricci, Ed Furlong, and Rufus Sewell. Short piece on Vince:

Growing up in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, Vince Vaughn was so hyperactive that his parents constantly "needed to keep me busy." It's not a problem anymore-not since he starred in Swingers, Doug Liman's 1996 indie hit that made him famous, thanks in part to his improvised hipster slang. "The catchphrases were all stuff I came up with," Vaughn says. After playing a photographer in The Lost World, he starred in The Locusts; this year he's the lead in Clay Pigeons and A Cool, Dry Place. And he has just returned from a month in Asia, shooting All for One, in which he plays a "limo-driver anti-hero." Now, briefly, the lanky 28-year-old plans to rest. "I'll take a little bit of a break, but not much," he says. "I like making movies."

Premiere -- Oct 1998
Vince was featured the Hollywood Vanguard issue:

Notable Projects: Past - Swingers, The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Present - Return to Paradise, Clay Pigeons. Future - Psycho.

Who are your heroes and heroines? My father and mother.

What would be your dream job?
Coaching a football team. As an actor, it would be playing the Andy Griffith role in A Face in the Crowd.

What aspect of the movies would you most like to change? To not have to make a crescendo out of every emotion. So many scripts go to extremes when they don't need to, either by blowing everything to high hell or making characters emote more than they should. Just let things be what they are.

What's your secret weapon? I always tell the truth.

What's the best perk you've ever gotten? My job is like summer camp: Every couple of months, you have a new adventure, and it's fun and different and interesting.

What part of the filmmaking process do you hate the most? The time it takes away from friends and family. When your career's going well, it keeps you away for long periods of time.

Choose one - sex, drugs, or rock 'n' roll: Sex

Seventeen
In a feature called Scene, Vince's addition to Celebrity Detention Hall of Fame:

"When I was 14, my friends and I pooled our money and bought a car. None of us had a license, but we owned a $799 Chevy Hatchback. We parked it behind the gas station where are friends worked. A big trip was driving it to the mall or to toilet-paper some friend's houses. Or I'd drive it to school and gamble with the janitors"

Vince was featured in In Style's Nov. '99 in a section called Culture Club, celebrity tips on what to watch, read, and listen to.
